Hey guys. I'm new to the forum but not new to watercraft. In the past I've owned a Kawasaki 750ss, Waveblaster 2 and a GP800 and 1200. I sold me last
ski back in 2003 to which I switched to sport bikes for about 5 years and now I'm lookin to get back on the water. The ski's i'm most interested
in from my readings are the 09 Ultra 260 and the Yamaha FZS. There's also a guy in my area that is selling 2 2002 Ultra 150's and a double Triton
trailer for 9k (which I told him already that he is way high on the price). I like the Ultra 260 because of the power and i think the price is right at $9,999.
I'm not real crazy about the fact that it is so heavy though. I like the FZS but I think its a bit overpriced. I'm going to check out the 2 Ultra
150's on Sunday but I hate buying used anything really, especially watercraft. I'd appreciate any thoughts and helpful info. Thanks alot.
welcome to the board. your asking a pretty biased group of people about jetski's. most will either tell you ultra 150 or ultra 250x/260x. if your looking
for an agile fast ski than ultra 150 is the way to go. if you want a fast ski for rough water than 250x/260x is the way to go.
Yeah I understand that. After all I am on an Ultra 150 site. Any advice on what I should offer for the 2 Ultra's and the trailer? They have less than 100
hours on them and supposed to be in excellent shape. I'm thinkin of starting at 7K.
I would take into consideration what kind of water you ride and what if any mods you would do. The 260x is great in the rough but a little hard to get alot of
speed out of. Low 70's can be done without too major expense. I have heard alot of good and bad on the fzs. The good being it is easy to mod for speed the
bad it cracking hulls, pump tunnels and stuffing pumps. Several guys have already been hurt pretty bad from getting thrown off when the pump stuffed. The 150s
are fast in smothe water and great jumpers when its rough, they are way cheaper to go fast on. Repair cost is going to be cheaper. The new 4 strokes are going
to have to go to the dealership for almost anything where the 150 you can do all the work yourself. We have several guys here that had never touched the inside
of a motor till they came here. We can help you through anything to do with a ultra or stxr.
There is alot of good info on both the 260 and the fzs. I would try to get the guy down to about 7k on the 2 150s if they are pretty clean. Also consider any
mods done, shredmaster plates and sponsons are things we recomend most. If they have sbt motors run away Good luck with your decision, if we can help you
out on the ultras feel free to jump in and ask.
Thanks guys. I really appreciate it. As far as mods go, there will be no engine mods for me anymore on ski's. I modded two of my ski's with only
cylinder heads and factory picpe exhausts which created absolutely nothing but problems. My GP 1200 actually blew up and no doubt it was from the mods. So
everything I buy now, stays stock as far as the engine goes. My mind may change in the near future but I'm a firm believer that a few extra mph is not
worth risking reliability. Thanks again for your input. I'll continue to research.
Welcome to the board man! What year are the Ultras you are looking at? Have you seen them personally?
If they are later years, then I would think 7k-6.5k would be pretty far if they are in good shape with a nice trailer. They didn't change much through out
the years on the Ultra, so another thing to consider is if you can find a lower hour older ski that is in good shape might be cheaper too, just food for
thought
The two Ultras are 2002's on a double Triton trailer. Here is a link, hope it works. http://pittsburgh.craigsl...org/boa/1251236266.html. I was supposed to go see them yesterday but
the owner's and my work schedule aren't coordinating very well.
If both are stock and have ~ 100 hours on them, and have been kept outside - I think with the dual-place Aluminum trailer included - $6.5K is more likely what
they would be purchased for.
